Gungahlin Bus Station & Hibberson Shared Zone

This project has delivered a safer pedestrian environment and access via a one-way shared zone between Gungahlin Place and Gozzard Street. The improvements to Hibberson Street will mean more people spend time here instead of just walking through.

It was important to maintain vehicle access along the street to provide access for businesses, people with disabilities and to ensure safety at night.

The project delivered:

A more comfortable, safe and vibrant space with greater potential for economic activity in Canberra's fastest growing region.
Broader pedestrian verges, with improved landscaping, more trees and places to sit and relax under the shade.
A safer pedestrian focussed streetscape, with reduced vehicle speeds, one-way travel (from Gungahlin Place to Gozzard Street) and the introduction of slow points along the length of road.
Upgraded and safer pedestrian crossings.
On-street parking, disabled parking and bike racks.

Kings Park - Blundells Cottage

Googong Subdivision

Googong is a self-contained town located on a picturesque site overlooking the Molonglo Ranges near the Googong Dam on Old Cooma Road in New South Wales. The master plan includes five neighbourhoods that will be home to around 18,000 people. The town will include schools, parks, shops and businesses. Ecowise Services has been been engaged since stage 1 of the project in 2013 and completed the rollout out of all high and low voltage electrical infrastructure for the subdivision – Padmount substations, pillars, streetlights.

Traffic Signals, Redlight and Speed Cameras

Ecowise Services personnel have provided installation, maintenance, accident damage repair and modification services for the entire ACT traffic signals network since the introduction of the first set of traffic lights back in the 1960's.

We provide the same services to RTA's NSW traffic light system (in South Eastern NSW region).

More recently we have extended this to include the supply, installation and maintenance of the entire Redlight & Fixed Speed Cameras network in the ACT.

This was one of the largest infrastructure projects in the ACT in 2009, involving tight timetables. This road network around the Canberra Airport is one of the most congested areas of roadway in the ACT, and the works involved progressive staging to keep the roads functioning throughout.

Supply, install and commission the Traffic Signals at the first intersection;
Supply, install and commission the roadway lighting leading to the airport’s final entry and overpass;
Supply, install and commission the bridge lighting approach to the first intersection.

Highview Stage 3 Jindabyne (client Northrop Consulting Engineers)

Ecowise Services was awarded the electrical (powerline) reticulation of this estate. This was a relatively standard Level 1 construction project, with the following fundamentals:

300m of 11kV 240sqmm underground cable;
1200m of LV 240sqmm underground cable;
22 LV pillars;
2 padmount substations plus 1 HV gas switch;
10 streetlight columns;
Several stages of temporary HV overhead augmentation to keep the feeder supplying neighbouring loads over several months.

Ecowise Services routinely travels to regional areas for powerline and other construction works.

Bulk Relamp of arterial roadway lighting (ACT Government)

Ecowise Services was awarded the bulk relamp of arterial roadway for a segment of the ACT Government’s streetlighting portfolio.

Project fundamentals were:

Supply and install of all materials and traffic control;
Approx 2000 streetlights, with a minimum of a new lamp plus cleaning required;
Replace some older fittings with new Environ Active Reactor fittings;
Columns up to 12 metre, and up to 2 x 3 lane trunk roadways;
4 month project timeline;
Strict access times for major roads (to minimize peak hour traffic disruption);
Strict safety controls for this obviously hazardous worksite;
Two x 40 foot EPV’s with support truck in convoy;
All ballasts & wiring etc to be changed on the run (wherever the exiting ballast or wiring would not support the new lamp);

Weston to Cotter optic fibre project (ACTEW)

Part of the needs of the Bulk Water Alliance was a high speed communications circuit to support the remote major construction sites. Ecowise Services was contracted to design, supply and install the fibre optic circuit.

Project fundamentals were:

Route from the Cotter pumping station to Canberra’s urban perimeter (Weston);
Approx 7kms of 12 core self supporting optic fibre cable;
Installation of the fibre onto existing 22kV powerline poles;
Complete design review of the existing (1940’s vintage) 22kV powerline poles for structural adequacy for the new fibre cable (to the satisfaction of powerline owner ActewAGL);
Reliable achievement of designer’s stringing tensions as per the stringing tables;
All fibre splicing at the end-points plus 2 extra connection points (droppers) along the way;
Most of the works undertaken with the powerline alive;
Use of in-house ESI Lineworkers.

Main Control Cubicle (MCC) Cotter Water Pumping Station (ACTEW)

As part of the ACT Water Security Strategy, the Bulk Water Alliance (ACTEW, John Holland, Abigroup, GHD) engaged Ecowise Services to undertake the design, supply and installation of the new High Voltage (2.75kV) MCC in the Cotter Raw Water Pumping Station. The project had the usual challenges.

First, a tight timetable for design and construct.

Second, the site was a heritage building from a completely different era, meaning the MCC needed to traverse very tight installation corridors.

Third, the project needed to work around a station that continued to operate throughout the works.

CCTV Roll-out

This project involved the ACT Government’s 2nd tranch roll-out of public space security cameras.

Ecowise Services was awarded several portions of this.

Project details:

Approx 20 cameras ultimately installed, including Manuka Oval, Manuka Shopping Precinct and Kingston Shopping Precinct;
Ecowise Services supplied the trenching and under-boring in busy Retail areas;
Ecowise Services was responsible for the provision of the optic fibre and power, plus installation of Multi-function poles, and associated hardware including cameras;
Ecowise Services devised an innovative solution for the provision of the power services to the sites (which got around technical hurdles imposed by the local Electricity Utility that would have otherwise caused ugly and cumbersome outcomes for the client).

Fibre optic re-alignment at Kings Avenue (Commonwealth Agencies)

The project involved the re-alignment of 3 major feeder roads in the ACT Parliamentary Triangle.

This required the associated re-alignment of all services in the roadway verges (these verges were major thoroughfares for critical trunk services).

Ecowise Services was responsible for the re-alignment of the Commonwealth’s dark fibre network, plus AAPT, TransAct and local government network InTACT.

Ecowise Services' responsibilities were as follows:

Replacement of the existing smaller core count networks in the vicinity, with a completely new set of high core-count fibre networks;
The new network cables ranged from 144 to 624 fibre core count;
Total new cable route length totaled approx 15kms, with accompanying manhole pits etc;
Approx 6000 splices, undertaken over 3 weekends of November/December 2009;
Intense pre-auditing that drilled down to individual fibres. Two of the Carrier networks required Ecowise Services to undertake extensive pre-auditing to provide the documentation required for the subsequent new/cut-over works.

It should be emphasized here that this tight fibre termination window

could only have been achieved with extensive pre-planning and documentation, to allow the windows to occur without surprise.
